Almost the intriguing story of Jekyll and Hyde, but instead being the possible contemporary outcome of perverted suppression of a child. Despite the outcome it's difficult not to feel deep compassion for the central character. Dekker is able to keep most readers guessing about the perpetrator of the maddening threats and actions until pretty nearly the end. Reading of a young man training in seminary who seems distant from the true Gospel message of salvation and the work of the Holy Spirit in the regeneration of the persona seems quite vague--that I would believe Dekker could have artfully worked in using his talents and still have avoided making this a tract. The portrayal of what probably exists in all of us to various degrees of our innocence, love and hate was a major draw for me as I read.Tags : Thr3e: Some Sins Were Never Meant to Be Discovered [Ted Dekker] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. The award-winning, best-selling suspense masterwork, now a major motion picture event. Enter a world where nothing is what it seems. Very good. Suspenseful and surprising but the major plot twist comes about 2/3 of the way into the book and feels increasingly contrived as the book progresses. The riddles thing is kinda of stupid but I think the simplicity of solving the riddles can be explained by the plot test. The first few chapters of this book are reminiscent of any of the great contemporary authors in terms of quality of writing.
I had high hopes... it was okay. I say it's predictable because the author plants the idea in your mind mid way through the book as to who the killer is and then at the end, there aren't surprises. I'd rather have been surprised by something totally different, or not let on to it so early and then having less of an impact at the end
Disappointing compared to the circle series. I just never bought into the characters. This concept has been done before with better twists. I am a Christian and appreciate the effort to tie in the inner turmoil of human nature. Good, Adam, Evil/Sin. But even that fell flat. I really enjoyed the Circle Series... and hope to try another one of his books that is developed in a similar way.
A very well written intelligent book! The book was captivating from page one. Lots of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. Felt the storyline with Jennifer and Kevin was a bit off but maybe that is my moral side talking. Otherwise I enjoyed the ride that the book offered. If you enjoy reading psychological thrillers along with having your brain stimulated with thought provoking writing...this book has it.
I received this book in the mail on a Thursday, stayed up all night Thursday reading the first half. Friday night, I stayed up all night again reading the second half and finished it. I literally couldn't put it down and it kept me up till 4am two nights in a row! Thrilling, mind-blowing suspense. You've got to read this book.
I gave "Three" four stars because didn't appreciate the characters. They were rather forgettable...not much depth, not well developed or flawed with a buttload of cliches. This is reconciled some through the ending...you'll understand what I mean when you get to the end. While the characters are on the shallow side, this book is still worth your time and you'll love it! D
Just when you think you have it all figured out, Dekker smacks you right in the face. I read the ending several times as I realized that this was not just a story, but truth that most of us fail or refuse to see. The title of THREE makes all the sense when you understand what the author is saying in this riveting story. Read it and think hard on the ending for therein lies the truth we refuse to acknowledge to often in ourselves and in others.
But the reality is that this novel wasn't as great as all the reviews said. It was ok, slightly creepy in parts, but amazing? Nope. The production of the novel was great. The author is very talented when it comes to the plot devices he used to keep the reader guessing. But I liked the characters so much that the ending just disappointed me. It was a letdown, even if the authors methods were pretty brilliant.
